In 2021, as the COVID-19 pandemic continued, the relationship between Korea and Japan was often evaluated to be the worst since the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The conflict between the two countries over historical issues expanded to the areas of politics and economy, and even security. Improvement in Korea-Japan relations was expected from the establishment of the Kishida administration, which was regarded as a moderate faction under the Abe administration and the succeeding Suga administration. However, as seen through media reports, conservative and right-wing forces are strengthening their involvement in history education and spreading their influence. We are concerned about historical denial and anti-Korean sentiment within the Japanese society unfolding into a "historical war" across borders.
