Patriotic Marty Ahn Jung-geun, who assassinated Ito Hirobumi in Harbin on Oct. 26 1909, says his deed was an act done in the name of “Oriental peace.” What he said about “Oriental peace” is included in the “Theory of Oriental Peace” he authored in prison in March 1910. Ahn’s theory of Oriental peace was not extremist nationalism imbued with anti-Japan sentiment but rather a means of achieving world peace. He thought that Korea, China, and Japan should achieve harmony through independence and unity, and then defend world peace as well as peace in the Orient.
