The Foundation held the 2019 second-half joint academic conference under the theme of “Powering the Sea: State Governance and Communities Attachment in History of Vietnam and Korea” with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) at the academy’s conference room in Hanoi. Having signed a mutual business accord with the Vietnamese academy in 2017, the Foundation held the first joint academic conference in Seoul in June this year. During the conference, divided into three sessions of premodern, modern, and territory and oceans, the Foundation’s four officials (Nam Sang-gu, Seo Chong-chin, Kwen Eun-ju and Yu Ha-young) made presentations and three researchers (Yi Kyoung-mi, Youn You-sook and Kwak Jin-o) conducted discussions. The Vietnamese researchers who made presentations were Dinh Quang Hai (director of Institute of History of VASS), Nguyen Duc Nhue (deputy director of Institute of History of VASS), Pham Hong Tung (Hanoi University of Social Sciences), Tran Thi Phuong Hoa (Institute of History of VASS) and Nugyen Van Minh (Vietnam Coast Guard). During the Hanoi conference, the Foundation discussed pushing for joint research and academic cooperation on the history of the Japanese invasion with VASS from 2020.
