The Northeast Asian History Foundation (Chairperson Park Jihang) held an academic conference on the theme “Dokdo Viewed Through Historical Documents” on Thursday, February 26, in the foundation’s main conference room.

This conference was organized amid Japan’s ongoing territorial provocations—such as Shimane Prefecture’s hosting of the 21st “Takeshima Day” event—to critically examine the Japanese government’s strategy of territorial distortion and to strengthen the logical foundation for Korea’s sovereignty over Dokdo through analysis of a vast body of historical sources spanning from the pre-modern period to the present. Researchers from the foundation and external experts participated, delivering a total of six presentations to academically assess the falsehood of Japan’s claims and rebut its key arguments.

In Session 1, presentations were given by Research Fellow Seok Ju-hee (Northeast Asian History Foundation), Research Fellow Seo Jin-ung (Northeast Asian History Foundation), and Research Professor Park Ji-young (Yeungnam University).
In Session 2, presentations were given by Research Fellow Kim Na-young (Northeast Asian History Foundation), Research Fellow Jang Jeong-su (Northeast Asian History Foundation), and Kim Young-soo, Director of the Dokdo Research Institute (Northeast Asian History Foundation).
The general discussion was attended by Professor Song Hwi-young (Yeungnam University), Team Leader Seo In-won (Support Foundation for Victims of Forced Mobilization by Imperial Japan), Professor Heo Won-young (Korea University), Professor Park Byeong-do (Konkuk University), Research Director Kim Su-hee (former Dokdo Foundation), and Senior Researcher Moon Gwang-gyun (Chungnam Institute of History and Culture), who continued the discussion.
