Look Back and Plan for the Future NAHF will celebrate its 15th anniversary on September 22nd. At the time of its establishment, the distortion of history of neighboring countries such as Japan's claim to sovereignty over Dokdo and China's Northeast Project emerged as a serious diplomatic issue. The Korean government and the people felt the necessity of a specialized research institute to cope with the distortion of history and the provocation of Japan on Dokdo. NAHF celebrates its 15th anniversary, knowing exactly our responsibilities and roles, and trying to leap forward for the future. So we invited Kim Yong-duk, the first President(current president of Foundation for Victims of Forced Mobilization by Imperial Japan). We talked with him about the background of the establishment of NAHF and the operation in the meantime, and asked him for advice on how NAHF could develop in the future.

A Study on Goguryeo with 15 Years of NAHF In July 2003, a Korean media reported that the Research Center for Chinese Borderland History and Geography and the Northeast China have been conducting the Northeast Project since 2002. The contents of the article were 'The core of the project is the history of Goguryeo, and their basic argument is that Goguryeo was an ancient Chinese local regime'. Korean academics, governments and the public were very angry about this. The media condemned China's maneuvering to take away the history of Goguryeo. In the meantime, the media reported on the current status of research on Goguryeo, which belonged to the alienated studies. I knew from the newspaper that there were 14 people studying Goguryeo in Korea until then. However, in fact, there were fewer doctors majoring in Goguryeo.

15 Years of Northeast Asian History Foundation The surrounding countries have shaken the identity of Korean history and the territorial sovereignty has been challenged. Then, a social consensus began to be formed that in order to solve the problems that occurred between Korea-Japan, and Korea-China, an organization should be established to respond systematically to them. At that time, the president accepted the public interest and request and ordered in March 2005 that a permanently dedicated organization should be established to respond in the mid- to long-term when other countries distort the history of our country.

‘1948년 독도폭격사건에 관한 실증 연구’를 돌아보며
Looking back at the 'empirical study on 1948 Bombing of Dokdo' On June 8, a memorial ceremony was held on Dokdo for those who were killed in the 1948 Dokdo bombing. On the previous day, experts gathered in Ulleungdo to hold a debate on the theme of ‘Tasks and Directions of Remembrance Projects for the 6·8 Dokdo Incident’. It has been more than 70 years since the incident happened. But the bereaved are still living with pain, and some people try to remember the day by comforting them. Since 2000, the truth of the case has been clarified in many parts by researchers. However, suspicions about casualties, damaged ships, compensation status, whether machine guns were fired, and how the US military had conducted bombing exercises on Dokdo were not resolved.

Korea Excluded from the Allied Powers sign an individual agreement with Japan Mitsubishi apologized to the United States and China, but why don't they apologize to Korea for the most damaging? On August 15, 1945, Korea became independent from Japanese colonial rule. Japan had to compensate and apologize for the deaths of independence activists, tortured and abused incarcerated, numerous victims mobilized in Japan's invasion war, and material damage. However, the demand for compensation for Japan did not work at all in the international community. Most Allied countries such as the United States, Britain, and France were still imperial states with colonies.

Where the head of Gojoson is buried The Ruins of Zhengjiawazi in Shenyang The Ruins of Zhengjiawazi is located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China. About 10 km southwest of Shenyang Station, you can see the museum with a sign 'Zhengjiawazi Bronze Short Sword Tomb Exhibition Hall'. Historians and archaeologists who major in Gojoseon estimate it as a tomb where the head of Gojoseon is buried in the 6th and 5th centuries BC.

Transcript for Life in Japan during ‘Covid-19 Disaster’ Global pandemic was declared due to Covid-19. And my life in Japan started in early January of this year. I am in a foreign country at a time when everyone is deterred from going abroad. So I have a very special experience. In Japan, the current situation is called the 'Covid-19 disaster'. Taniguchi Shinko, who helped me come to Waseda University, told me: “I heard you were coming in early January. But Covid-19 was making me half-doubted.”

NAHF NEWS On August 10, NAHF and Kang Deuk-gu(member of the National Assembly) held a discussion forum on ‘Understanding Korean Culture Correctly’ for high school students. This was broadcast in real time on YouTube. In this discussion forum, Park Chae-rin(researcher at the World Institute of Kimchi) presented the theme of 'Kimchi, the eternal companion of Korean food'. And Lee Min-joo(researcher at the Academy of Korean Studies) made a presentation on 'Cultural Exchange through Hanbok'. In addition, two speakers and Nam Sang-gu(director of NAHF) answered the questions of the youth who participated in the discussion forum.
