Territorial Education and National Sovereignty on Dokdo The Northeast Asian Historical Foundation(NAHF) was established on February 28th in the underground of Gwanghwamun Station ‘Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall’ was opened to promote Korea's territorial sovereignty. Since September 2012, NAHF has operated Dokdo Museum Seoul(Seodaemun-gu, Seoul) and has become a specialized research institute and educational institution for Dokdo. In the future, NAHF will make efforts to indirectly experience Dokdo as well as various attractions to visitors through Dokdo Museum Seoul and Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall with the motto of ‘Dokdo: Meet in Seoul’.

The Importance of Education on Dokdo, The Meaning of Opening of Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall This year marks 120 years since the Korean Empire declared Dokdo as our territory under Edict 41, and it is the 10th year since the private sector enacted Dokdo Day and held a commemorative event. Korea has strengthened its will to protect Dokdo through education on Dokdo whenever Japan provokes Dokdo. In the early days, the education on Dokdo was strengthened according to how to describe Dokdo in elementary and junior high school geography textbooks. However, in recent years, education on Dokdo has been diversified through experiences, activities, practices, exhibition halls, etc. in addition to the contents of social studies textbooks.

The Present State of Territorial Education Showing Differences in the Perceptions of History between Korea and Japan Japan has enacted Takeshima Day at the local government level, and the central government has set up the Cabinet Secretariat’s Office od Policy Planning and Coordination on territory and sovereignty to promote policies on territory and sovereignty. In particular, Japan has revised guidelines for elementary, middle, and high school learning to establish a framework for enforcing Dokdo education, and to strengthen support for education, publicity and research.

Dokdo: Meet at Gwanghwamun NAHF received a free use permit from the Seoul Metropolitan Government in October last year to use the underground exhibition space of Gwanghwamun Station as the Dokdo Exhibition Hall for three years. Last year, visitors were visited by the "East Sea and Dokdo map exhibition"(approximately 10,000 visitors for about three months), but earlier this year NAHF's internal and external experts participated in the project to re-open Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall and re-organize it with new content on February 28.

Five-year project to translate the historical records of Gojoseon and Buyeo to lay the foundations for the lack of historical data and deepening research NAHF Institute on Pre-modern Korean History has been searching and translating new historical records since 2018 to solve the most difficult 'lack of historical records' problem in Gojoseon and Buyeo historical studies. We are organizing teams with academic majors and translating historical records that have never been translated before. In December 2019, we published a collection of materials called 『Ancient History of Korea: Gojoseon · Buyeo (1) - Historical materials before the 17th century』.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, mutual entry between Korea and Japan is strictly controlled and conflicts between the two countries are amplifying. The embargo on Japan's semiconductor parts for Korea in 2019 has begun to become more strained with the rapidly frozen Korea-Japan relationship not recovering. In this phenomenon, Korea and Japan are mistaken for not being a historical problem, but as if they are naturalized among countries like the 'natural enemy' of the animal system.

Ha Bok-hyang and Kahuko, The story of who we should remember- sexual slavery victim for the Japanese imperial army in Philippines The history of ‘Sexual slavery victims for the Japanese imperial army’ to be used in the early 1990s, which is leading the recovery of world peace and human rights with a new perspective, new language, and new future. At the center was a survivor of the Japanese military sex slave. At the same time, there were activists, researchers, and citizens who were with the victim, found data, and gave meaning to the victim’s language. I want to record those moments and continue history in future generations.

The Foundation's News On March 12, NAHF strongly urged the Japanese government to specify forced mobilization and forced labor in the Industrial Heritage Information Center to be built in Tokyo. This Industrial Heritage Information Center reflects the recommendation to establish an interpretation strategy to understand the whole history when part of the modern industrial facilities in Japan was listed as a World Heritage Site in the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in July 2015.
