National Territory and Waters as the Foundation of Our Lives Korea and Japan have maintained different opinions about what to call the sea lying between the Korean peninsula and the Japanese archipelago. As the two countries seem to still be far away from agreeing upon a single name to be used internationally, this month's interview attempts to gain insight in arriving at a resolution by turning to Professor Emeritus Lee Ki-suk of Seoul National University who has long been studying the matter of naming Dokdo and the East Sea.

Humans, Nature, and the All Powerful in the Myth of Dangun At one time, myths were considered "uncivilized ideas" from primitive or ancient societies. They stood in contrast to reason or rationality of the modern times. Myths were thus easily overlooked as a subject of research, especially for modern historical studies that revolved around the reconstruction of facts and scientific methods of research. Hence, their value as a historical source was not recognized, to which the myth of Dangun was no exception.

International Academic Conference “The History of Korea-China Joint Resistance in the War Against the Japanese” - Tribulations on the Road to Freedom, Independence, and Democracy - On May 26, 2017, the Northeast Asian History Foundation’s Institute of Japanese Studies and Fudan University’s department of history jointly hosted an international academic conference titled “The History of Korea-China Joint Resistance in the War Against the Japanese” at the university’s campus in Shanghai, China. The conference was held as part of a three-year project the Foundation launched to prepare for the centenary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government (hereinafter referred to as the provisional government) coming up in 2019.

Glimpsing into the History of Vietnam in Hanoi An unfamiliar level of humidity was the very first sense of Vietnam that swept over me upon arriving in Hanoi. Although it had been unusually hot for late spring in Seoul when I departed from Incheon Airport on the third of May, the weather in Hanoi still felt fairly exotic because it presented a mid-summer stuffiness that comes right after the monsoon season in Korea. Thankfully enough, the temperature in the bus the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences had arranged for us was cool enough to begin our journey on a fresh note.
