On the Publication About the History of Korea-Japan Relations Diagnosing the Current Korea-Japan Relations and Forecasting its Future Upon the anniversary marking fifty years since diplomatic relations became normalized between South Korea and Japan, the Northeast Asian History Foundation published the series "History of Korea-Japan Relations, 1965-2015." To celebrate the publication of the series composed of three volumes each devoted to the political, economic, and sociocultural relations between the two nations, the Foundation held an expert meeting on December 22, 2015 at its grand conference hall under the theme "Contemplating the 50th Anniversary of the Normalization of Korea-Japan Diplomatic Relations."

Japanese Sources Telling the Truth About Dokdo I recently had the honor of receiving the "Dokdo Academic Award" given by the Northeast Asian History Foundation. Unfortunately, my own family members are still torn between delight and anxiety. The issue involving Dokdo is in fact like a ticking bomb that could blow up at any time. That is why the Korean community in Japan does their utmost to avoid the issue and the reason it is treated as taboo within the Korean Cultural Center in Japan, which is operated by the South Korean government.

Reflections on Korean Historical Research and the Meiji Restoration In one research paper written by a Japanese author, I was shocked to find historical research in South Korea be defined as "immature in terms of empirical study." It was a painful description that nailed reality. A glimpse at the research subjects covered so far on Korea's modern and contemporary history reveals that there are too many yet to be studied and that there are more than a few studies falling short of in-depth, empirical research. There is no detailed verification done on arguments from articles that have already been published. Many research subjects that fall under modern and contemporary Korean history require a review of not only Korean material, but Chinese and Japanese material as well.

Annotated Translation of Waiguo zhuan (Series) A Window to Understanding Traditional China and the World) From Shiji (史記), or the Records of the Grand Scribe, to Mingshi (明史), the History of Ming, each work of official Chinese history includes accounts of foreign countries referred to as waiguo zhuan (外國傳). Such accounts documenting the countries and tribes surrounding Chinese dynasties have been translated, annotated, and compiled into a series published by the Northeast Asian History Foundation.
