Suggestion on 'Northern History Research' In Korea, the `Northern History' largely refers to the history comprising Manchuria and Mongolia. How has the research been on the area? The area has mainly been dealt within the framework of Korean history without being referred in Chinese history, as it had been regarded as the place of origin of Korea's ancient history. Chinese history has been tantamount to the Oriental history mainly consisting of royal history of `Han' people in central China area. Against this backdrop, the standard of politics, economy, society and culture has been based on the farming culture in the central region. So the history and culture of nations surrounding China has been described as ``primitive'' or ``uncivilized.'' I believe it is time to bring a change to such history perspective.

"Dokdo issue should be resolved logically not emotionally" Northeast Asia History Foundation (NAHF) opens an exhibition of 'East Sea and Dokdo in Old Maps' on March 2-9 at the National Assembly Library. The exhibition will display some 40 pieces among 100 the NAHF collected at home and from abroad. The maps on display will include five ones like `Kankyo Dainibon Sizin Zenzu' (Geat Japan New Map produced with government permission) and `Dainibon Zenzu' (Great Japan Map), owned by Hosaka Yuji, professor of Sejong University. NAHF visited with the professor to hear from him about the territorial issue involving Dokdo and his love for Korea. He has been dedicated to studying Korean history and culture

2010 Winter Training for Teachers Confirms Possibility of "East Asian-Style" History Education Dec. 17, 2009 was a very historic day for history teachers in schools. This is because in defiance of earlier expectation the 'East Asia History' was adopted as the history sbubject instead of 'Korean Culture History' in the revision of educational process for 2009. The controversial educational process has yet to be tested regarding its worthiness and meaning in our history education. But it is fortunate to see the 'East Asia History' came to remain afloat though it had been put on the brink of disappearance.

The research of Goguryeo wall paintings and contents development Goguryeo ancient wall paintings came to light since the exploration began in early 20th century. They were listed in the World Heritage during the organization's 28th general congress held in Soju, China in 2004. World Conservation Union decides the list of cultural and natural heritages regarded as having excellent and common values within the criteria in accordance with the agreements adopted by the UNESCO's general assembly.

a Takeaway from a visit to China National Library China is undergoing rapid changes, which can be witnessed in every aspect. Also many changes took place in China National Library (located in Baischao in western Beijing, formerly Beijing Library) including the gigantic building which I could never dream when I first visited there in 2004. As if to show China's wish to leap forward a global power, the complicate and massive palace of knowledge reflects China's will to 'compress' time and space. It is like to proclaim to the visitors that "I am no longer what I used be. I am on the brink of being resurrected brilliantly."

19세기에 21세기 역동적 한국을 예언하다
21st Century Dynamic Korea Forecast in 19th Century A Russian diplomat Posioh wrote «Korea Overview (Очерк Кореи)» in 1982 as the first book on Korea published in Russia, which was translated for publication in German in 1895. Maps attached to the book describe West and East Islets of Dokdo as Olibucha (Оливуца), and Menelai (Менелай), classifying Dokdo as Korean territory in a clear-cut manner. In particular, the writer described east sea of Korea as East Sea and Sea of Japan (Японском и Восточном морях), for Korean side and Japanese side, respectively.

'다케시마의 날'?
"Takeshima Day" to celebrate the history of territorial aggression! Question: Japan's Shinema Prefecture proclaimed Feb. 22 as "Takeshima Day." Since then Japan has been holding massive ceremonies every year in attempts to claim Dokdo as part of its territory. What is Japan's motive toward that end?
