A Lesson from the European reconciliation of history A beautiful day dawned at Normandy Beach on 6 June 2004. The weather was unusually fine without a single breath of wind, and pieces of white cloud were scattered far away in the sky. The scene around the beach village was really quiet and peaceful. Then, white-haired old veterans wearing military uniforms in various colors began to gather on this beautiful and peaceful Normandy Beach from the early morning of the day. They all gazed at the far-off horizon with tearful eyes.

'East Sea' to be used in more publications , "Soft but persuasive approaches" The 15th International Seminar on Sea Names was held in Sydney last September. During the seminar, it was confirmed that the Austrian Board on Geographic Names had made a decision with regard to the naming of the sea between Korea and Japan. The Austrian Board established a guiding principle and recommended using both 'East Sea' and 'Sea of Japan' next to each other in publications. Numerous people promoting the use of 'East Sea' in publications had put a great amount of effort before the Austrian Board on Geographic Names, a leader in international discussions about geographic names, made this decision. In this context, we have met Professor Choo Sung-jae who has been very active in promoting the use of 'East Sea' in publications.

Ahn Yong-bok and Hachiemon, the scenes for the heroes There are two people respected as heroes in their countries. They are AHN Yong-bok and Aizuya Hachiemon. In April 1693, AHN Yong-bok met Japanese fishermen in Ulleungdo, an island located to the northwest of Dokdo island. AHN Yong-bok went to Japan with the fishermen and stayed there for 7 months. Details are not known about his journey, but according to the Annals of King Sukjong, "AHN Yong-bok went to Japan and he made it clear that Ulleungdo and Jasando (Dokdo) belong to Joseon (then Korea) and the Japanese official gave him a document recognizing the territorial rights of Korea to those islands." It is a record claiming Korea's sovereignty over the islands of Ulleungdo and Dokdo.

Developing strategies for peculiar and universal elements of history International Conference on Japanese Military Sexual Slavery" Twenty years will have passed in 2010 since Japanese military comfort women became a real issue in our community. There have been a lot of happenings for this short period. Those who were victims but have been treated as sinners for the last 50 years have come out to the world, women around the world who have recognized the historical significance of the issue have deployed joint activities, and the history hidden for such a long time has come to see the light thanks to scholars and activists who have worked for this cause.

Contributing to the development of chinese studies in Korea Korea Association of Contemporary Chinese Studies The Korea Association of Contemporary Chinese Studies is an interdisciplinary academic society comprised of scholars carrying out studies on China in various fields of study including politics, economics, history, philosophy and culture. With around 400 members, this is the only interdisciplinary academic society in Korea concerning studies on China.

Training sessions for teachers of East Asian history Northeast Asian History Foundation has been working in various ways to strengthen history education and vitalize education of East Asian History. Particularly, the Foundation has provided "training sessions" for teachers of East Asian History from the capital and regional areas of the country in order to raise their professional level of knowledge on 'East Asia History'. The Foundation has responded to the society's increased interest in East Asian History after a revised curriculum for social studies was announced in 2007.

Authenticity of the statute of limitation of the Gando Treaty Question: Gando Treaty celebrated its 100th anniversary in September this year. It is often said that Korea cannot claim Gando as part of its territory if 100 years has passed. Does this opinion have any ground? Answer: The international law does not specify the limitation period of a territorial right.
