Field Trip for On-Site Investigation of Mount Baekdu

The Northeast Asian History Foundation conducted an on-site investigation of Mount Baekdu (Changbai Mountain) and its surrounding areas to monitor the local situation and understand the current conditions following China's designation of Mount Baekdu as a UNESCO Global Geopark. The investigation team included President Park Jihang, Director of the Korea-China Research Institute Lee Seong-jae, Director of Education and Public Relations Chung Young-mi, and researchers Kim Hyun-chul, Moon Sang-myeoung, and Wee Ka-ya.

The foundation examined various aspects during this investigation, including the management status of Mount Baekdu, the situation of nearby tourist attractions, the management of historical sites related to Goguryeo and Balhae after COVID-19, changes in the Korean-Chinese community, and China's policies on ethnic minorities. The findings from this investigation are expected to serve as critical data for the foundation's policy formulation and decision-making.
