MOU Signing Ceremony between the Northeast Asian History Foundation and 

the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences

On April 24th, the Northeast Asian History Foundation and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for academic exchange between the two institutions in Hanoi, Vietnam. The foundation was represented by Chairman Park Jihang, Director of Research Policy Nam Sang-goo, Director of the International Relations Institute Jo Yoon-soo, and Research Fellow Lee Jang-wook. The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences was represented by President Phan Chi Hieu, Director of the International Cooperation Department Nguyen Thanh Ha, Director of the Institute of History Le Quang Chan, and Research Fellow of the East Asian Institute Tran Hoang Long. The South Korean Embassy in Vietnam also attended to celebrate the MOU between the two institutions.

Currently, the governments of South Korea and Vietnam are actively cooperating in various fields, including science, technology, and the economy, more than ever before. They agreed that in order to further develop these collaborations, it is crucial to understand each other's history and culture. This is because the historical and current interests of Vietnam and South Korea align. The two institutions decided to advance from their previous exchanges and pursue academic research that can contribute to the future of both countries. Based on this, they plan to promote exchanges in various areas, such as academic conferences, joint research and publications, and researcher exchanges. Chairman Park Jihang expressed hope that academic exchanges would be driven by young researchers and emphasized that historical research should contribute to the future and daily lives of the people of both countries. Starting this year, the two institutions plan to initiate joint research on the theme of "The History of Foreign Relations between Korea and Vietnam."
