The History Foundation will host an international symposium on Northeast Asian Peace and Borderland Cooperation on November 26 and 27 (Thursday & Friday) at the Foundation''s Grand Conference Room (11th floor).

This international symposium focuses on borderlands, which have gone from being peripheral areas filled with remnants of past conflicts to being areas of cooperation, coexistence, and co-prosperity for related countries. The symposium will be a venue for the discussion of various issues related to borderland cooperation and ways to develop East Asia''s plural order and a cooperative theory.

This symposium will be attended by 24 experts from Korea and China, and it will be divided into three sessions: Changes in East Asian Societies and Borderland Cooperation, Experiences & Future Direction of Borderland Cooperation, and Supranational Tourism & Future Direction in Borderland Areas.

Park Jangbae, one of the presenters, will speak on "Evolution of China''s Borderland Theory and Development of the Concept of ''Borderlands of Mutual Benefits,''" and he will argue that "China''s understanding and interpretation of borderlands are changing in that China is beginning to see them as areas that give rise to mutual benefits" and that "we must pay close attention to China''s interest and changes in its theory to look for areas for mutual cooperation."

Director Man Hai-feng of Liaodong University''s Korean Peninsula Research Institute will present on "the current status and future development of tourism in North China''s borderlands with a focus on the Dandong region," and he is expected to explain the possibility of creating mutual benefits among countries on borderland issues.
