The Northeast Asian History Foundation (NAHF) held the inauguration ceremony of its second president, Chung Jae-Jeong, at the Grand Auditorium of the NAHF Building on September 18, 2009 with the participation of all its staff members.

A distinguished expert in modern Korean history, Chung graduated from the Department of History Education at Seoul National University (SNU) and earned his doctor’s degree in Korean history at the same institution. He later served as the chairman of the Korea-Japan Historical Society and a board member of the Korea Publication Ethics Commission.

In his inauguration speech, Chung thanked former president Kim Yongdeok and all the staff members at NAHF for their dedication and commitment to laying the solid foundation for the Foundation’s success despite numerous difficulties since its establishment in September 2006. He also praised NAHF’s role in promoting historical perception for the peace and coexistence of Northeast Asian countries and building intellectual and human networks for spreading such perception.

He also stressed, however, that the Foundation should continue to reinforce its fundamentals to respond actively to challenges from home and abroad, as historical and territorial issues may emerge as hot potatoes anytime given the highly volatile political dynamics of Northeast Asia.
