Title : (Northeast Asian History Foundation Research Series 55)
Current Trend in Research of History of Relationship
Lee, Geun Myung et al.
Small Octavo Edition / 356 pages / 2010 / KRW13,000 (US$11) / ISBN 978-89-6187-202-7
The title examines research in China on the relations between the Han Chinese and Northern Tribes were studied: from the final days of Qing Dynasty to Song, Liao, Jin and early days of Mongol Empire. It focuses on the following 6 topics: (1) Han Chinese - Northern Tribes relations in late Tang Dynasty; (2) Five Dynasties - Khitans relations; (3) Northern Song - Liao relations; (4) History of Western Xia; (5) Song - Jin relations; (6) Southern Song - Molgol relations. Professor Lee Geun Myung, who represents the authors, says that notable characteristics of research in China on the history of Song Dynasty include the fall of historical materialism and the growing trend of "patriotism". In particular, he points out that study on the histories of ethnic minorities in China is carried out from the perspective of "unified multi-ethnic state", but if we look deep inside, "Han Chinese nationalism" is once again being repeated. The title holds significance in that it analyzes recent research trends in China, which had not been addressed by Korean scholars, and acknowledges the achievements and limitations.
